Artist Bio

Andreas Kocks was born in Oberhausen, Germany in 1960, lived in New York since 1999 and recently moved his studio to Munich, Germany.

He received his MFA in sculpture at the Kunstakademie, Duesseldorf and his teaching degree at the University of Duesseldorf.

Andreas Kocks’ work focuses around the integration of fine art and architecture. By cutting into paper and installing multiple layers in a site-specific place he transforms the “contained architectural box” into a territorial surface. The walls of the architecture no longer define the space; Kocks modifies the conventional cube, and removes its innate banality into a cerebral experience, into an event. Kocks invites the viewer to move and change their position thus modifying his or her viewpoint.

Andreas Kocks work has been shown in galleries and museums since the mid eighties in Europe and the United States. He has been developing a reputation for site specific works for private and public collections. His most recent award was the Pollock-Krasner Grant, New York in 2007/2007
